Years ago as a youth pastor, I came across this leadership saying by Doug Fields, "Leaders are Learners." That phrase has stuck with me over the years. Learning early in ministry that if i want to continue to get better as a leader, I'd better continue learning.
I'm so thankful to have begun this practice at my first full time church position in Athen, OH, back in 1995. Early on, I couldn't wait to listen to my "Injoy" Leadership Tapes by John Maxwell. I would take a ton of notes on the provided note sheets. I also loved to get my monthly Group Magazine subscription. I would read it over and over. This week, almost 17 years later, Im in California learning. I'm really here for a Small Group Network Regional Leader retreat. But in the midst of the retreat and surrounded by so many great leaders, I'm learning. Listening to so many with so many experiences, I cant help but learn and continue to grow as a leader.
